THE NEW CREATIVES: BERGGREN STUDIO

Tove Berggren’s design track record includes names like Henrik Vibskov, Hussein Chalayan, House of Dagmar, Minimarket and many other brands balancing between art and fashion. This is a natural choice for a woman who has degrees both in textile design and fine arts. With Berggren Studio, Tove is establishing a new brand for which she is the sole creative director. The relationship between art and fashion will continue developing, now seen from her own perspective.

Though Berggren Studio is Copenhagen based, Tove’s Swedish roots are the base of much of her inspiration. Her print universe is the base from which a strong connection to shapes, colours, and ambiance of the Nordic nature is apparent.

Berggren finds perfection in the imperfect, that is why many of her prints are created as a graphic experience to be explored and perceived individually, in the same way as people experience each other differently.

Tove’s many years in the fashion industry have equipped her with a philosophy that forces her to not only create, but to work in a collaborative way. Whether sketching a collection or engaging in a collaboration. Tove does her utmost to entice her customer’s curiosity and to add to a business that has already seen so much. THE NEW CREATIVES: FLOCK

The duo believes physical stimulation is essential to human survival and happiness even in our time of digital elongation of our bodies. They believe that despite the enormous impact of computers, and discussion about virtual and reality, textiles and tactility are essential to our existence. An understanding of the importance of textiles fused with the growing digital knowledge can potentially determine the future of clothing. By rethinking reality and aesthetic, Flock has worked on creating tactility in a digitally built universe - constantly recognising the coexistence of tradition and technology as essential.

Their recent collection, Picnic Posse, is a colourful pattern based unisex collection in a simple and functional silhouette. It is inspired by the zeitgeist of today in which boundaries between cultures and gender are blurred. The collection is a contrasting fusion between functional shapes and multicoloured textiles in a vivid universe. Flock wants to challenge the Norse monochromatic aesthetic and instead instigate the senses through colour and print.

The pair works in opposite ways; one is targeting body and shape, the other surface and graphics. Therefore, Flock serves as the perfect cooperation for the two designers to share knowledge and expertise in a joint project. Instead of adhering to the monotonous industrial standards of at least 2-4 collections a year, Flock wishes to slowly add to their universe. This way they can continually investigate their aesthetic in both print and silhouette. By insisting on this approach, they hope to inspire their customers to review their shopping behaviour and subsequently buy less but better garments.

A focal point for Flock is to reinterpret simple historical shapes in clothing. For instance, the kimono and other authentic Asian uniforms that have been translated into the Flock universe through a range of adjustable and functional details. Flock wants their customers to observe their collection as a unified identity with multitude usage instead of single pieces of clothing for a man or a woman. By allowing for a combination of the different styles because of the gender-neutral appearance, the collection can be perceived as conjoining building blocks with numerous solutions.

Finally, what drives the project bringing clothing with intelligence and passion into the world. By creating unique handcrafted garments in a module based, add-on urging and consumption-minimising universe, Flock is essentially about building a lasting relationship between wearer and garment.

With simple and functional shapes, and strong expressions in patterns and colours, they create bold designs, that can be combined in numerous ways, regardless of sex and style. The coexistence of tradition and technology has influenced FLOCK, to work with a combination of manual crafts and digital techniques. With their designs, FLOCK wants to evoke an awareness of texture and tactility within a digital expression, giving every style a unique look and a strong significance.

HENRIK VIBSKOV X STUTTERHEIM

We are happy to announce a new collaboration between Henrik Vibskov and Stutterheim! Swedish premium outerwear company Stutterheim Raincoats collaborates with Danish multi-talented designer Henrik Vibskov, playing with the notion of Scandinavian creativity, resulting in two exclusive patterned unisex raincoats.

Henrik Vibskov is the multifaceted creative who has defined the eccentric streak of the Danish fashion and design scene over the past 15 years, often working with spectacular cuts and colors. In many ways his designs stand in stark contrast to Stutterheim, known for their iconic simplicity, yet both are true representative of Scandinavian creativity. Through collaborating the two approaches are combined, resulting in two styles with intricate patterns.

The basis of the collaboration is the classic Stutterheim Stockholm silhouette, reimagined by Vibskov through oversized colorful graphics created through an advanced patchwork method of double welding pieces of rubberized fabric. Both coats come with flap pockets, a deep hood and cotton drawstrings, one in green, black and light sand and one in light sand and pink with yellow and black details.

“We champion all creativity, and to be able to work with Henrik, who we admire greatly, has been a true privilege. To combine our two aesthetics forced us to push ourselves in terms of what can be done while both staying true to ourselves.” says Stutterheim’s Marketing Director Johan Loman.

“It has been interesting to work with Stutterheim in combining our brands and views on design. Their specific technique of welding material gave me the possibility to experiment with pattern in a new way, while keeping their iconic silhouette as base.” says Henrik Vibskov.

The Stutterheim x Henrik Vibskov coats will be available in a limited quantity at stutterheim.com and at Stutterheim’s flagship stores in Stockholm and New York, alongside Henrik Vibskov’s stores in NYC and Copenhagen and at henrikvibskovboutique.com.

To celebrate this collaboration, we have prepared a unique launch celebration which will tackle our imagination and drawn us into the universe of Henrik Vibskov and Stutterheim. We are looking forward seeing you on 22 March 2017 in our Henrik Vibskov Boutique, Copenhagen.

This year the exhibition, curated and staged by the renowned Danish designer Henrik Vibskov, returns to the historic cloister San Simpliciano in the heart of Milan.

Every year, more than 300,000 design aficionados visit the Milan Design Week, the world’s biggest design event. Again this year, the Danish Arts Foundation presents brand-new works by a select group of Danish craft makers and designers to the design-interested audience. Henrik Vibskov has won considerable international acclaim with his unique design universe and spectacularly staged fashion shows. Henrik has also been among the selected exhibitors in earlier MINDCRAFT exhibitions.

True to tradition, MINDCRAFT showcases a selection of the most talented names in Danish craft and design, including both new and established names. This year’s exhibition features 18 craft makers and designers who represent a wide range of practice areas, from ceramics and glass to furniture and fashion. Moreover, the event is aimed at promoting the opportunities of the participating designers and at profiling Danish craft and design to national and international opinion leaders, press, manufacturers and other professionals in the field.

This year’s participants are:
Tobias Møhl, Yuki Ferdinandsen, Eske Rex and Maria Mengel, Birk Marcus Hansen, Emil Krøyer and Mads Sætter-Lassen, Anne Dorthe Vester and Maria Bruun, Kasper Kjeldgaard, LærkeValum, Marianne Eriksen Scott-Hansen, Isabel Berglund, Hanne G, Anders Ruhwald, Christina Schou Christensen, Pernille Pontoppidan Pedersen, and Carl Emil Jacobsen.

With MINDCRAFT17, the exhibition returns to the historic cloister San Simpliciano, the venue of the 2015 exhibition. In 2015, the spectacular scenography drew international attention and received both a ‘Milano Design Award’ and a ‘German Design Award’. In 2008, the exhibition was recognized with a ‘Best of 100% Design Award’.
